It can be about both ...

Leisure by W. H. Davies

WHAT is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?

No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep and cows

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began?

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

I had to memorize this poem when I was a child and it has always remained with me. It popped into my head today and I had to look it up to find the poet’s name.

Since the start of my journey with the band I’ve often had to tell myself that it is just that, a journey. Yes, I do have a destination, namely my goal weight but I can also celebrate accomplishments along the way. The irrational part of me wants all the weight off now, but in just less than two months I’ve made good strides. I’ve starting reaching out to some good friends I’d lost touch with, I’m working out again, I’ve surpassed my monthly weight loss goal and I am in generally much better spirits than I was a few months ago when the thought of having to lose over 100 pounds seemed so overwhelming and impossible to me. When I get to my goal, however long it takes, I want to be able to recall all the fun I had along the way.

  1. What a great attitude. I need to concentrate on that. I want things to be done now!

  2. NICE!!! I love this post. The band can bring so many changes in us, it can be breathtaking. Enjoy the ride as you make your way to goal. You have lots of little great things about to happen too as you get there.

  3. I love, love, love that poem. I think most of us could benefit from slowing down a little and taking in what's around us in the here and now rather than constantly striving for more. Note to self: take note of what self just wrote.
